bistros from abroad!?
I was in a department store lately that had imported Italian panettone and a woman next to me pointed to it and said oh that is good for bread and butter puddingWww@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
yes they tend to steal continental cuisines and recipes and claim it as their own, such as "British panacetta"

but all you need to know to grasp British cuisine, is that their favourite dish is Chicken Tikka Masala from IndiaWww@FoodAQ@Com

I would certainly say NOT - it's a very strong food-culture, and by far most people actually cook their own meals every day!.

The fast food is one of the strongest exponents for the strong food culture - you do get the world-wide chains, of course, but fortunately they have not currupted the tradition of having lots of little individually owned places!.

I don't think the UK ever discuraged celebrity chefs!. The fame of f!.ex!. Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay is based on their very strong personalities, and ability to navigate in the world wide media!.
I believe the food culture of the UK has always been as varied and interesting, as the 2 of them has succeeded in showing the world!. UK-cuisine just needed the right people to actually tell the world !.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

actually alot of people use panettone for bread and butter pudding coz u get it for a pound and it tastes really good!. But yes generally speaking English cuisine is a bit behind in terms of development!. While i was there i noticed food is pretty bland and almost always two dimensional but with the introduction of many cuisines and celebrity chefs, cooking shows etc things are getting better!. also the smaller towns suffer most with bland traditional cuisine whereas in London the blend of different cultures and cuisines make it an interesting place to eat out!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
