Why doesn't my iced latte taste as good as Starbucks?!
I use Starbucks brand coffee that I grind myself!.!.!. I use Starbucks brand caramel syrup!.!.!. I have a steam and pressure espresso maker!. Is that my problem!? Do the Starbucks pump espresso makers really make espresso that tastes that much better!?!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
its the espresso machine youre using!. starbucks uses the espresso beans and they are not any fresher than the ones you can buy in the store!.
the machines they use there are big and expensive and seasoned!. what i mean by seasoned is that they are used a lot as opposed to home espresso machines that arent used very often!. if you have a big old seasoned machine, the shots will taste more delicious!.
also the baristas are trained to pull good shots from the machines!. its been a while, but i think that the shot has to be between 17 and 20 seconds!. they have a digital reading on there and if the shot takes a shorter or longer time than this, they have to make another!.

One of my friend's kids is a Barista at my local Starbucks!. He says the coffee they use for the frozen drinks is The "House Blend" and it's brewed double strength so the coffee taste comes through regardless of any other added flavours!.!. also the standard milk used is 2% for regular drinks!. Non-fat for "light" versions!.
They do use specially made blenders, commercial grade brewing units, and the whipped cream is their own blend as well!.
He suggests that you use-
? cup double strength, chilled, brewed coffee
1 cup 2% Milk
3 Tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon Light Karo syrup
1? cups crushed ice (start with crushed ice do not use cubes)
Combine all ingredients in your blender, in the order given and blend at high speed until drink is smooth!. Pour into a 16 ounce glass, serve with a straw!.
If you want a "Mocha" add 4 tablespoons Hershey's syrup after the milk!. If you want a Caramel, add 3 tablespoons Caramel sauce after the milk!.
If you want whipped cream!. He suggests you blend 2 Tablespoons Cool Whip, and 2 teaspoons confectioner's sugar (powdered sugar) into ? cup real, unsweetened heavy cream then whip until stiff!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Actually, I think Starbuck's iced lattes are way too WEAK, and mine taste much better at home!. I use 3 shots of espresso with liquid creamer and a scoop of vanilla ice cream (much better than whipped cream)!. You might also try one of the flavored Coffeemate or International liquid creamers; they usually have a caramel one in the Fall!. also, make sure that you're using ESPRESSO beans, not regular coffee beans!. At the very least, it should be a strong French Roast!. It sounds like you're using weaker coffee beans!.!.!.!.!. I use Starbuck's Komodo Dragon for regular coffee!. Even though it's very strong, it still isn't strong enough to make espressoWww@FoodAQ@Com
The at home machines are no where near as powerful as a commercial machine for starters!. The pressure is usually no comparison!.
also, you may be grinding it different from the shop's grind and you beans may not be fresh!.
Try going to a coffee shop that sells bean in bulk (as in they will pack it for you from their own stocks, not pre-packed stock)!. You can also have them grind it for you (keep it in the freezer so it stays fresh longer)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They use high fructose corn syrup in a higher concentration than their bottled syrup-its what keeps everyone coming back for more!. Corn syrup is nasty stuff-tasty yes, but very unhealthy!. HFCS is what makes MOST commercial foods taste good!. If you make it yourself, you will get used to the less sweet taste and mouthfeel of the coffee!. The big businesses do not want you to be able to duplicate recipes at home-otherwise, no one would be buying in the stores!. They sell you the stuff knowing that it won't taste the same!. My niece used to work at Starbucks and even she cannot duplicate it at home-its the extra flavoring in the syrups they have in the stores!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
as someone that used to work as a barista in starbucks here are a few pointer that maybe you could try:
first of all, for the coffe we usually use espresso coffee(dark roast)
only grind the coffee when you want to drink them!.Put your caramel syrup in the cup before putting the coffe!.
then as soon as the espresso machine gives you the espresso shot, put the milk right away!.then add the ice!. dont shake the coffee, just give it a swirl a couple of timesWww@FoodAQ@Com

Who knows!? I suspect that their coffee to water ratios are different than our home brews, therefore producing much stronger coffees for their mixed drinks!. They also have a variety of syrups that they make themselves, so perhaps there are flavor enhancers in those!? Think about it, if we could truly re-create them at home, they wouldn't exactly have a booming business, right!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Their coffee is much fresher than yours!.
They charge you twice as much to make your iced latte!. Do you really think they are going to give you the wherewithal to make it yourself!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
