Should supermarkets be required to wash fruits and vegetables before they put them up for sale, ?!

Question: Should supermarkets be required to wash fruits and vegetables before they put them up for sale, !?
Answers:
I think it would be really convenient if they came perfectly sanitized, but because we cant trust people wash their hand when handling them or customers that feel the fruit to see if it is ripe are cleanly!. Even if they washed them, I would still be cautious and wash them anyway!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No!. The food grade wax everyone is complaining about protects them!. If you wash off the wax (even the natural waxes like on apples) you will destroy the shelf life!. That will lead to much greater waste and much higher costs!.

I don't think produce is expensive!. Compare $5 worth of apples to a Mochasomthingorother from Crapbux and then try to tell me it's expensive!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In today's greedy market place, having regulations would only allow the supermarket to charge more and there would not be enough inspectors for enforcement!.

Come on dude, we can't get enough prison guards, let alone any produce inspectors to watch over irridated strawberries!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They're usually rinsed off at the farm, before they're packaged!. Do you really want to add MORE cost to the food we buy at the grocery store!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Only if you want to PAY a CRAP load more for those already expensive fruits and veggies!
Besides, if they did I would still wash them myself!.
Stop being so lazy, dang!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why bother!? Most fruits are covered with an oil or food-grade wax to make them shinier and more appealing to the consumer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no they should not becuase it is the person who buying that should wash ,and if they had to do they would charge you more money becuase of the extra labor involvedWww@FoodAQ@Com

Perhaps rather then asking them to wash the fruit and veggies we should ask them to stop putting wax on them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no, even if they did you still need to wash them again, you dont know who or what has touched them!.!.!.are you really that lazy!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

no, sir!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
