Have you seen the green "plastic" bags on tv!? They are GREAT for keeping vegetables and fruit fresh!. It makes a big difference to how long they'll keep fresh for!. The bags are able to absorb ethylene gas, which is the gas fruit produces that makes it spoil!. Keeping fruit and veg in regular plastic bags makes them spoil very quickly due to the ethylene not being able to escape!. In Australia you can buy the green bags at greengrocers!. In America I've seen them by the checkouts at Walmart!. You can also buy them as a tv special in America!. You can re use the bags a few times, and are definitely worth the money!. Broccoli keeps really well for a week in these bags!. I would also recommend that you buy less fruit each time you buy, and buy it more frequently, then you don't have the problem of it spoiling!. Here's another tip for you: Don't discard the plastic punnets that your strawberries etc come in!. I keep any really large, plastic strawberry punnets!. They have "breathing" holes in them, which also helps keep fruit fresh!. I put a bag into the empty plastic container, then I put the fruit/veg into the plastic tray!. I keep several plastic trays layered in my crisper drawers in the refrigerator and it's always easy to find and remove/replace your goodies from the fridge!. Because the produce is inside the plastic tray, it's protected in much the same way that eggs are protected in an egg carton, and bruising etc is minimised!. By the way, your tomatoes will taste better if you put them on your window sill for a day or two when you get them home!. It will ripen them up and make them taste like vine ripened ones!. Once they go into your fridge, the flavour stops developing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
