Why is "cow tongue" so expensive to buy?!

Question: Why is "cow tongue" so expensive to buy!?
Im asking this question because I dont really like cow tongue that much but anywhere that sells it charges an extremely high price for it!. Most people would think that cows tongue is beyond disgusting and wouldn't eat it for a million dollars!. What I want to know is why the stores would charge such a high price for something that no one wants!? Whats the point of buying something and then trying to sell it at such a high price but nobody buys and you have to throw it away as a waste of money!? There are a lot of exotic and disgusting food that most people wouldnt even want to try and most of them are very expensive!. Whats the point of having something cost so much if no one wants to buy it!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, believe it or not there are people who actually like to buy and cook cow tongue!. At Wal-Mart in the meat section they sell them all the time, along with Oxtail (actually cut up cow tail), and two kinds of Tripe (cow stomachs)!. It would be so expensive because a cow only has one tongue and it is small compared to the hundreds of pounds of other meat on the cow!. So, its relatively scarce, which drives up the price for people who want it!. You know, supply and demand, and all that stuff!. I would never consider buying a tongue to eat but apparently a lot of other people would!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

it is the obvious supply and demand!. where the demographic warrants it to be sold the consumers that buy it will spend so much on it because when correctly prepared it is tender and very very flavorful!. This is not the case with tripe because it is used in great quantities but isn't extremely flavorful!. Kind of like the Foie gras(AKA fatty liver or goose liver) for that particular ethnicity or demographic!. Do I really have to be politically correct in my answer!?!?!? hmmm!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Lots of people buy it!. I've eaten it before!. Didn't think it was that great but people must like it or they wouldn't sell it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
