How long does it take unrefrigerated mayonnaise to expire?!

Question: How long does it take unrefrigerated mayonnaise to expire!?
My little sister made herself a sandwich with some mayonnaise that had been sitting out for a few days opened, and I'm wondering if it was rancid or not!. She said that it smelled funny, but she's only six so I'm not too sure what happened!. And before you say it my brother was supposed to be watching her when it happened so I wasn't even there to stop her!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would call the hospital or doctor to find out this info!. I would say it would go bad within a few hours to maybe 10 or 12 hours depending on the temperature!. If it is refrigerated than after opening you must use it within 3 months but you must keep it cold!. CALL DOCTOR NOW!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't know if store bought mayo goes rancid being that its made from crap usually, it definitely isn't safe to eat at that stage though too much time for bacteria to grow, especially for her being six, BUT it takes HOURS not minutes for mayo to become "unsafe" to eat, 4 hours above 40 degrees to be exact, anything held above 40 degrees for more then four hours has the potential to make a young child or elderly person sickWww@FoodAQ@Com

please throw it out!.

if your sister does get sick, remember that she ate it so you can tell the doctor and your parents!. perhaps, try to remember, too, how long it went unrefrigerated!. depending on how hot/warm that it got, is how long it takes to spoil!.

hopefully, she will be all right, this time!. but you guys have to remember to always refrigerate that stuff when it is opened!.
