How to organize stand-alone freezer?!
I have one of those large chest freezers in my basement that opens from the top!. There are no compartments in there - just a big ol' box type of thing!. Needless to say I package everything nice and neatly, but still can't seem to easily get to the stuff all the way on the bottom!. Are there compartments you can buy to organize the stuff more efficiently!? Or better techniques!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, I am sure there are kinds of expensive organizers you can buy!.!.!.but I am on the ghetto side, so I bought some plastic crates!. They are available at any discount or dollar store!. The large crates are the best, the size of the old fashioned milk crates!. They hold up very well!. I have been using the same crates for 10 years!. You don't need a ton of them, as many things like frozen turkey, large hams, etc!. can be stored and accessed easily without being in a crate!. But for those hot dogs, sausage rolls, pot pies, etc!. these crates are just irreplaceable!.
The crates only cost a couple of dollars or so!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

SURE! - I have seen some trays that fit on the bottom to resolve your very predicament!. these come in many sizes to fit the many different sizes of freezer units!.
I bet you can find these "mini-trays" at the manufacturer's website or almost any Sporting store location!.
Most Sporting stores that sell FISHING SUPPLIES or CAMPING EQUIPMENT should also sell adaptive freezer trays for your very situation!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The answers you have received are all great but remember that if you put your food into a container make sure you label it as to what is in it as you will be standing with the door open a long time!. Put your veggies in one, fruit in another and so on and have fun!. Just remember to take a pen with you when you get something so you can remove the item from the list on the container!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
There should be some type of metal rack or some plastic thingy in your local Walmart!. Or try to find some metal racks large enough to fit in your freezer standing up!. If you can't find any try putting the items you use most on top or large items on one side and smaller items on the other
Best of luck!

Those freezers are the worst for trying to organize!. However, I really liked the crate idea!. Next time get an upright!. They are soooo much easier to see inside and you can better keep track of what you have!. It doesn't get "lost" as easy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Sorry I hate these types of freezers because of this and it's an upright freezer all the way!. The good part of these freezers is they are usually deep freeze and the product lasts longer because of this!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
maybe you could just try tupperware!. it's good to keep any smells at bay and to keep any transfer of tastes or germs, remember, freezing doesn'tt kill germs, it just slows down the growth to ahaltt!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
