What is it about bagels that makes them so high in calories?!
The little ones I bought at the grocery store have 270 calories per bagel and I think that's quite a bit for a snack-size food item!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Think of it like you would think of cereal!. A very dense "good for you" cereal!.!.!.!.say, Grapenuts!.!.!.!.is PACKED FULL of calories & carbs!. Because it is SO DENSE!. Now, think of another "good for you" cereal, like!.!.!.!.Cheerios!.!.!.!.very airy, very light, there are holes in the middle!. No density!. And the calories in Cheerios are very low!.
The Grapenuts will fill you up more, but you can eat more of the Cheerios and be less guilty about it!.
Bread is the same way!. The denser, the higher in calories!. Even plain old bad-for-you white bread is much lower in calories than a bagel because the bagel is MUCH, much DENSER!. It is a heavier bread!.
And yes, that is a lot of calories for a snack item!. I try to stay under 100 for my snacks, personally!. But I might go to 150 if it's something I really want!.!.!.!. lol!. ;)

Bread is the same way!. The denser, the higher in calories!. Even plain old bad-for-you white bread is much lower in calories than a bagel because the bagel is MUCH, much DENSER!. It is a heavier bread!.

Hm!.!. I usually only eat half of a regular size bagel!. And a fruit smoothie, homemade with smoothie mix and frozen strawberries!.

They are very dense and heavy and don't have as much leavening as yeast bread, so they are also more calorie dense!. I usually only eat half of one!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
