Why do candy/soda machines sometimes not take your money...?!

Question: Why do candy/soda machines sometimes not take your money!.!.!.!?
Wow, what a dumb question, I know, but it's a mystery!!!!.!.!.!.

I just went to the break room and put my quarter in!. Why in the world do these lovely, fancy machines not take the change at first, then when you put it back in, it'll take it!? The quarter looked flawless to me, and obviously the second time it went in, the machine thought so as well!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The coin acceptor in the machine reads the metallic thickness and metalic content of the coin!.The coin reader has a tendency to get dusty/dirty and blocks part of the sensors in the coin acceptor!.That is the number one cause, the second is if your coin is older than 1964 it wont take it either as these coins are mostly silver!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think it might be how the coin falls into the machine, maybe if it falls in too fast the machine doesn't recognize it as money!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Be happy, usually they take my money on the first shot but don't dispense anything!.
