Fillet steak eaten raw?!

Question: Fillet steak eaten raw!?
An expensive dish on many top restaurants is steak tartar!. It is basically raw fillet steak and onions!. How many of you have tried that and what is your opinion!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Tartare is usually ground raw meat mixed with other things, say, a quail egg for example!. It is only served in restaurants where the hygienic quality is impeccable, so I wouldn't recommend eating it at your average restaurant if they offer it there!. You can sometimes get it at a sushi restaurant!. I find it wonderful and tasty!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Actually, what you are describing is carpaccio, although there is a form of tartare that is made from thinly sliced beef (sometimes horse meat) and marinating and chilling it before serving, tartare is usually made with ground meat rather than sliced!. usually the distinguisher is a raw quail egg that is served with the tartare!.

Due to today's modern corporate agro-business, the sanitation of many meat processing plants brings the quality of the meat used in carpaccio or tartare into question, and many experts advice against the consumption of raw beef because of the possibility of bacterial or parasitic contamination!. Mexian tartare is usually marinated in lime juice (like ceviche) which serves to disinfect the meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've tried it and it is ok, but you have to have a taste for it!. Many people don't like raw food!. Chances are, if you like sushi, you will like raw meat too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is yummy - it's like having sushi!. But if you do not like rare steak, then you probably won't like it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
