It is appropriate that we consider taste and smell together because they are so intertwined in our experience that most people are unaware that most of what they call taste is really an olfactory experience!. The sensations evoked by a substance put into the mouth are complex and involve much more than taste!. For example, a mouthful of orange soda pop gives one a taste that is a combination of sour and sweet; it is cold; it may sting or tingle a bit if it is carbonated; it evokes a complex touch sensation in the mouth, and it smells fruity or fragrant!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Your statement can be right and can be wrong!. Firstly when we
eats something and having acquired the smell and taste, it is registered in our mind and thus we knows the taste without sampling it!.
Some foods or fruits have a awful smell but it is rather tasty!. The durian, most Asians likes this fruit but for a westerner, the smell is enough to put them off!. However, after sampling it, some do like it so much that they will eat it when it is available!. Some Asians and Thai cooking ingredients requires preserved fish paste or fermented produce and the smell is rather awful!. But without such item, the food is not as nice as it should!. So smell does not really ascertain the taste of some foods!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your tongue can't take all of the credit for tasting different flavors, it has help from your nose!.
Your nose helps you taste foods by smelling them before they go in your mouth and as you chew and swallow them!. Strong smells can even confuse your taste buds!. Ciao
