never put it in the fridge!. People always do this without thinking it through!. Fridges are designed to remove moisture in the air and will do that will anything in there!. On the counter is fine unless you don't think it will get eaten with in 4 or 5 days!. Then the freezer is the place to put it!. If you are buying bread at the store, like Wonder Bread or what ever brand, it is full of natural and chemical preservatives and has an out date on it that is a general guide line but that kind of bread is good for a week or more as long as the bag gets closed after each use!. Bread from upscale bakeries that use no dough conditioners or chemical preservatives or even homemade will dry out or get stale in a couple of days and should be frozen soon after baking!. When I baked my own, I froze all but the loaf I needed for that day and simply took out another loaf each morning!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
There is just my wife and I so a loaf of bread last along time!. I keep it in the freezer from day one!. I found out if you buy regular white bread it has a lot of moisture in it and is harder to get the slices a part!. I buy buttermilk bread which should be sold in all large food stores!. The bread does not contain as much moisture, and will thaw out very fast!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I place it in the fridge first to get cold so it won't form ice crystals in the freezer!. Then I put it in the freezer so that I can take out what I need or you can do a half loaf at a time!. It lasts a long time this way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
We leave it out on the counter for about a day or two, then put it in the refrigerator!.
