In my area of Northern California:

Safeway
Albertsons/Lucky
Raley's/Nob Hill
Trader Joe's
Whole Foods
Draeger's
Lunnardi's
Food Maxx
Independently owned markets
Asian markets, like 99 Ranch and Marina

I guess to me, a conventional supermarket is one that sells many types of food, prepared and raw, in many aisles including a frozen section, and fresh produce, meat, and dairy!. I would not include very small ethnic markets, or "superstores" that sell groceries along with many other kinds of goods (Target, WalMart, Costco)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In Botswana we have

Spar
Game
Pick and Pay
Choppies
Score
Shoprite
Checkers
Woolworths Food
Payless

and many others not so big chain supermarkets but the above usually carry just about everything you may need!. Choppies is the chepeast and Pick and Pay is the most expensive with Spar tending to be in the middle and the quality of their food and everything else is good!. Personally i prefer Spar than any other coz its "got the right stuff" if know what i mean!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

HEB
Albertson
Kroger
Food Lion
Stanley's
Safeway
Farmer's Market
Warehouse Market
Sam's Club
Super Walmart
Etc!.
