Campbell's Soup claims sea salt is lower in sodium - how can this be?!
I bought some Campbell's Chunky Healthy Request soup (the gumbo, for anyone who's interested), and the can says it's lower in sodium because it uses sea salt!.
It is lower in sodium, only 450 per serving vs!. 800!. (Tastes exactly the same as the full-sodium, IMO!.)
How can sea salt be lower in sodium!? Salt is NaCl - sodium chloride, one molecule of sodium for every molecule of chloride!. Sea salt is just salt, no!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

The science behind it is this!. Sea salt contains some other metal salts such as magnesium and calcium as well as others!. So it is slightly lower in sodium that regular sodium chloride!. But the difference in sodium level you cite is certainly do to either Campbell using less salt overall or a different serving size!. Sea salt is not "healthier" by any know measure it is just a popular fad!. A little salt is required for heath but it is generally agreed that Americans consume way too much salt (sodium)!.

Sea salt and table salt have the same nutritional value!. The real differences between sea salt and table salt are in their taste and texture!. Sea salt is harvested from seawater through evaporation!. Table salt is typically from rock salt, which is mined from mineral deposits!. Both types of salt can be fully refined, and the end result is pure sodium chloride!. Variations in the refining process result in different forms of salt!.
Table salt is a fine-grained salt that often contains added iodine (iodized salt)!. Iodine is necessary for normal thyroid function!. Some table salt may also contain anti-caking ingredient!.
Sea salt is available in fine or coarse grain!. Sea salt has a slightly different taste than table salt because of different minerals it contains!. Many people prefer sea salt to table salt because they claim it has a more subtle flavor!. Sea salt doesn't contain iodine or any other additives!. However, if you use sea salt you typically don't have to worry about not getting enough iodine in your diet because iodine is available in many other foods, including dairy products, seafood and many processed foods!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Imagine if you use true sea salt all the foreign particulate matter that reduces the true value of the bulk salt
I have No idea but food psychotics just love to hear it
PS: All salt is Kosher*
Kosher salt gets its name not because it follows the guidelines for kosher foods as written in the Torah (nearly all salt is kosher, including ordinary table salt), but rather because of its use in making meats kosher, by helping to extract the blood from the meat!. Because kosher salt grains are larger than regular table salt grains, when meats are coated in kosher salt the salt does not dissolve readily; the salt remains on the surface of the meat longer to draw fluids out of the meatWww@FoodAQ@Com
