What does it take to get accepted to a culinary school?!
What do they look for in an application- HS attendance, SAT scores, GPAs!? I know they show the responsibility of the person, but it doesn't really have anything to do with being able to make a great meal!.
I'm asking because I was lazy and slacked off in high school (bad attendance, mediocre GPA) but I have a passion for cooking and am great at it and it's my dream to be a chef- what are my chances of achieving this!? I just want to know how hard culinary schools are to get into (like La Cordon Bleu) and if getting a job as a waitress would improve my chances (since it'd be experience in the food business)!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Almost all culinary schools will accept students with a high school diploma and rarely do they consider the same qualifications as a college or university!. For the big named schools you really just need to come up with the tuition!. Culinary schools and programs are considered trade programs!.
A couple of things come to mind in your question!.!.!.
1)!. Being a chef requires perfect attendance on the job and in school!. You can not call in sick to work (only if you are dead or dying) and if you miss a practical lab in school there is no way to make it up!.
2!.) Having a passion for cooking is a great start and where I started, but it requires lots of hard work and a dedication to perfection, and you must always keep trying something until you get it right!.
3!.) A job waiting tables will do nothing for you in a kitchen!. They are two different worlds!. You would learn a little about service in culinary school but it is not a focus at all!.
Having said all of that, I was once in the same position as you, lazy student, etc!.!.!. I have been working professionally in kitchens for almost 14 years and I love to cook!. I got a two year degree in the culinary arts (which was really hard work) and would like to continue studying cuisines from around the world!.
Good luck to you : )
