Why do foods in contact with bananas for a while slightly taste like bananas?!


Question: Why do foods in contact with bananas for a while slightly taste like bananas!?
My sandwich was next to a banana in a lunch bag and tasted slightly like banana when I ate it!. I am curious to why this happens!.!.!. Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

It depends on whether the banana was peeled or still had the peel on!. If the banana had been peeled, then some of it could have rubbed off on the sandwich!. If the peel was still on I would say it is probably the power of suggestion - your subconscious mind associates the sandwich with the banana or something!. Then again, apparently bananas emit some kind of gas that speeds their ripening!. If this is what gives bananas their flavor (possible), then maybe that is what you were tasting!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
