How come I always feel sick after chewing gum?!

Question: How come I always feel sick after chewing gum!?
I usually chew a few pieces of gum during the school day, but sometimes it gives me a stomach ache!. I was wondering why, some times my friends say that too!. Is gum bad for your stomach, or is it bad to chew it for so long!? ThanxWww@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
The reason I won't chew gum is the reason for this!.

When you chew your mouth sends signals to your brain telling you that you have food in your mouth and are chewing it ready for digestion!. The brain then send this signal on to your stomach telling it to prepare for the food it is about to receive from your mouth!. In preparing for the food the stomach muscles start churning around the acids inside to help break down the food when it arrives!.

HOWEVER, with gum you are not sending the food down to your stomach, you are just chewing!. This means the stomach acids will end up breaking down the inside walls of your stomach instead as it has nothing else to break down!. This causes stomach aches, a sick feeling and can lead to stomach ulcers if done too much!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, if your friends say that too, then this probably isn't why, but there's this label on the back of almost all gum that says "Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine!." Phenylalanine is in Aspartame, which is an artificial sweetener!. This stuff is BAD FOR YOU!. I personally don't get sick after chewing gum, but there's all kinds of stuff that's bad about aspartame!. I'm not saying you should buy non-sugar free gum, because that's bad for your teeth, I'm just saying!.!.!. maybe that's why!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'd say that the amount of sugar that is in the gum has a lot to do with it!. If you chew it for a long time parts of the chewy gum dissolves into your stomach even if you don't mean for it to!. And even when it doesn't taste like it, it still has sugar in it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It could be a chemical in the brand of gum you are chewing!. also, it helps to have a meal beforehand!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Some people feel sick from their own saliva (when there's a lot) and gum often contains salivating agents!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

When you chew gum, you swallow a tremendous amount of air which gives you gas!. That's probably what's causing the pain in your stomach!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because you always chew gum after doing something that makes you sickWww@FoodAQ@Com

I don't know!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well maybe thats tooooo much sugar even though its sugar free or u should try eating it after lunch or something Www@FoodAQ@Com
