Most dairy cows are not allowed to nurse their own babies!. They are bred for extremely high milk production and calves would be given some milk but not allowed to nurse naturally!.
Some calves would probably be killed for veal, especially males, as male calves of dairy breeds wouldn't be as valuable as female calves!. A single bull of a dairy breed can "service" a huge amount of cows by artificial insemination!. So male calves are not needed and they're probably killed for veal (as they're not primarily meat cows, so they wouldn't be raised for beef!.)
It's not all happy times on the factory farms!. Get to know more about factory "farming" (I hesitate to use the word "farm" to refer to these facilities) and you'll be disgusted!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why would they should the calf right away!? They would just seperate it from the mother, chain it to a pole, make it grow a bit more, then kill it, and sell the meat (I've heard they feed the calves alcohol too to make the meat softer!?)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
no, this is not true!. the cows they use for milking cows are not used for breeding purposes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
