Iceberg lettuce now low in nutritional value?!

Question: Iceberg lettuce now low in nutritional value!?
A friend suggested that I eat lots of lettuces because of the health benefits I could get from them!. Although not much, it will seriously help me in my stressful life!.

But then I came upon this article and read that the iceberg lettuces that I've been eating (and now loved so dearly) doesn't have the nutritional values I thought it had!.

From Wikipedia:
"Some lettuces (especially iceberg) have been specifically bred to remove the bitterness from their leaves!. These lettuces have a high water content with very little nutrient value!."

The placebo effect it might have had on me is now gone if this is really true!. I know I shouldn't depend on a lettuce for vitamins (that's just ridiculous), but I've been telling myself that I'm finally eating something healthy at last and now this!.

Is it true!? Are the lettuces of today not that vitamin-full anymore!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
True, iceberg is mostly water and has very little if any nutritional value!. Go for leafy dark green lettuces, espially spinach (fresh, not frozen) to get more vitamins!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Iceberg lettuce was never that full of nutrition any way!. But no one complained when it was the only lettuce available for most of the year!. Now we have a wide variety available all year even in the colder climates!.

Well, we're always told to drink more water and by eating iceberg you're getting more of that!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
