Can I eat quinces raw?!


Question: Can I eat quinces raw!?
I bought a couple of quinces to try something new!. Can I just slice it up and eat it!?

probably not - they are a fruit meant to be boiled and made into jam or simmered and reduced into a paste (called membrillo)

Raw they are verry astringent and tangy!. I don't think you can ripen them to an edible point without rotting them!.!.

I think you could peel them and slow roast them in an oven with a little butter and sugar over them, like 250 degrees for a longgggg time!. But even then, not sure if its too much work for too little reward!

Most varieties of quince are too hard, astringent and sour to eat raw unless 'bletted' (softened by frost and subsequent decay)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
