Can Starfruit be frozen?!

Question: Can Starfruit be frozen!?
We're using star fruit for our wedding on November 8!. I searched for a long time trying to find a place to order it online!. I finally found a site, but it looked a bit shady!. I went ahead and ordered because I wasn't sure how long it would take!. It hasn't come in yet, but I'm worried that we'll get it too soon and it will go bad!. I read somewhere that you can slice and freeze it for a while!. Anyone know!? If it can't be frozen, does anyone know where I can order some online!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
You might want to be more specific!. There are at least three different plants called starfruit!. I presume you mean carambola, which is this thing:

If you do, you freeze them by either immersing them in syrup first or slicing them up crosswise and layering them alternately with sugar!. You can also preserve them without freezing by soaking in brine, or you can keep the segments frozen and put them in punch or cocktails like ice cubes!. However, they do tend to discolour easily if you let them thaw!. Candying them would probably be quite effective!. That would mean around 1 1/2 times their weight in white sugar!.

Do be aware, though, that they have a number of safety issues!. They interact with a lot of drugs and are quite high in oxalic acid!. If i had some right now, it would probably give me salivary calculi, because i'm susceptible to that!. They're a problem for people with kidney disease, on heart drugs or statins and they tend to increase the strength of a lot of drugs!. Then again, grapefruit is like that too!.

Be careful, basically!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Great answer grayure

Just another bit of information though!.
How are you going to serve it!? If you are planning on placing it on a fruit platter then no, don't freeze it!.

If you want to add it to a punch bowl then freeze it and add it to the punch frozen!.

If you life in or near a metro area, you might want to call a grocery wholesaler!. (Look in the yellow pages under grocery wholesaler)

Call one of them and order what you want!. Do it now and tell them what day you want it!. They order and have it there in just the right amount of time!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
