Answers:
Exactly!! Thats what ive always said the point makes sense (You cant have everything) but the fact that its a cake and its main purpose is to eat it!?!?!?!? dosent make any sense!. They should use a different medefore such as!.!.!.!. well I cant think of one but anyone would be better then that one Www@FoodAQ@Com

The phrase refers to snide comments French citizens made of their queen, Antoinette!. The alleged conversation that this is from goes along the lines of :

Antoinette: Why are they yelling!?
Adviser: There is no bread
Antoinette: Then let them eat cake

rough paraphrase, but basically meant to show that Antoinette was unsympathetic to the poor in France!. Over time the phrase got adjusted and generally means you can't have everything, which from a literal standpoint, you're right, makes no sense whatsoever, but maybe the historical context helps somewhat :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

i think it meant in the olden days you normally have a cake for tea with your family!. (sharing) nowdays we dont see cakes as somthing as important as sitting down with our families and eating cake, this is why the cliche means"have your cake and eat it" probally meant on your own not sharing

Ahhhhhhh bottom line is GREED "have your cake and eat it" a whole cake like something in life you want!. For example you want something a certain way in a friendship/relationshipWww@FoodAQ@Com

It's an old proverb that simply means that the things people want are often incompatible!. An example would be that you want to borrow Dad's car so you can go away for the weekend but you also want him to pay for the gas!. Get it!? It has nothing to do with cake!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

To wish to have one's cake and eat it too or simply have one's cake and eat it is to want more than one can handle or deserve, or to try to have two incompatible things!. It's just a figure of speech!.

What it really means is to have the best of both worlds - & you're not being forced to choose one thing or another - that you can have both if you want to!. You're taking the word "cake" a little too literally!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a BAKER!.!.!.!. so there

I can have my cake, eat it, share it about, have sex with it (minding the raisins) and then !.!.!.!.!.!. sell it to you HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HAHA HA HA HAWww@FoodAQ@Com

haha! i agree, how silly is it!?!
it would make a lot more sense if it was "eat your cake and have it too" because obviously you cant eat it and look at it
