Grocery budget arguement?!

Question: Grocery budget arguement!?
I have been having an issue with a recurring fight between my husband and myself!. It seems ridiculous when I say it out loud but everytime I go to buy the groceries for the week I get chewed out because he thinks I spend too much!. To give you a little background on the amount of cooking I do, we eat ALL our meals at home cooked by me!. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner for my husband and myself as well as snacks (usually some fruit or crackers) for my 1 year old (who eats about half the amount I do)!. I spend on average about $100 a week on my groceries and if it helps I live in Plano, Texas!. There are a few things I think which contribute to this, first: my husband goes to the grocery store once every few months at best every time he goes he is amazed at the cost of groceries, second: He has a friend who tells him that his wife buys groceries for himself, his wife, their 6 year old and their 2 year old with $75 a week!. I would love to know their secret but truthfully I think it is BS unless they are eating out on occasion and not counting that money into the budget!. I always buy whats on sale and I don't overbuy!. We eat mostly chicken and hanburger as far as meat goes becuase it is usually the cheapest!. I cut coupons when I can find them!. Is my grocery budget really too high!? If it is what else can I do to bring it down!. If not are there any websites I can go to with average grocery expense info to show my husband or something like that!? I am tired of being chewed out every time I buy groceries and his only solution is to "tighten the belt" which means he thinks we should either stop eating lunch or breakfast which seems really ridiculous to me!.

I live in richardson, tx and shop in plano so i know what grocery prices are like here!. I cook maybe 3 nights a week for 2 people and i spend almost that much!. Maybe you can try going through the grocery bill with him and showing him that everything you bought is something that the family will eat!. also maybe try cutting back and see how he likes it if there is not meat or fresh vegetables with his meals!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

I dont think that it is too high!. Maybe you could cut back a little but not much maybe only like $10!. I spend $100 - $130 a week on groceries!. That is for 5 of us: me, my fiance, 11 year old daughter, 8 year old son and 7 year old daughter!. The price of groceries especially basics like fruits, vegetables, and meat are ridiculously high!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think that $100 is neither too much to too little to spend on groceries for 3 people!. Especially if you are eating 3 meals a day in!.
If he is so concerned about it, you should make him go to the store for the family!. See if he can do better!. Or he can go with you!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

you should take hiim to the grocery store with you and have him buy everything and prove to him that he has no right to get mad at you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your husband is probably out of touch with realistic prices!. To prove your point, you should insist that he makes time to go shopping with you more often!. (I believe it's called "put up or shut up") !

Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ask your husband's friend's wife to go shopping with you and see if she can help!.

It would certainly prove/disprove her claims!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Give him that belt he wants tightened and tell him to buy the groceries from now on!Www@FoodAQ@Com

100 underWww@FoodAQ@Com

they probably clip and use coupons and buy stuff on sale!. $100 isnt that much considering how much food is now!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

100 a week is not bad at all!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Let him do the shopping for a week and see if he does betterWww@FoodAQ@Com

I spend around 200$ every two weeks on mine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Let him do the shopping!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Buy in bulk at Costco-type store!. You'll get so much for your money and have to do less shopping!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think the $75 a week thing is BS!. I live in Allen, and I know how outrageous grocery stores in that area are!. Feeding 3 people for $100 a week in Plano is doing good!. I spend about $125 a week for me and my fiancee!. Send your husband to the grocery store to do the shopping for the next few weeks and let him see how much groceries really cost!. See if he can do any better!. He'll probably come home after spending $200 on beer and pretzels!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

thats not bad at all these days!. seriously, like, you could TOTALLY be spending way the hell more!.

prices on everything are going up!. $100 a week isnt bad!.

if he thinks he can do better, let him try one week!.

also, a bit of a hint if you DO want to try saving a little more, there are certain rules that apply with coupons!. some days at the grocery stores near me you can use more than one of the same kind of coupon!. saves you even more!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would have him go with you and he can see how much everything costs!. I would ask him what he wants that you should stop buying!.

Another thing you can do, but it might be time consuming, is to write down what meals you are having for the week and then after you buy the groceries write the prices out to the side!. If you use the meat in one or more dinners, just divide the cost up!. When it is all broken down, show him the costs!.

Good luck!. It would piss me off to no end to have to hear that argument!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Wow, $100 for all you guys is really not that much at all!. I have to mention that I don't really restrain myself at the store, but for only two people, I spend about twice what you spend!. And I do the bulk of my shopping at Costco and Trader Joes, which is way cheaper than Whole Foods or Safeway!.

also, my cousin lived in Plano before moving to Frisco, and that's where people who make the highest per capita in the United States live!. Your husband needs to get his priorities straighted out!. What does he want you to buy!? Ramen Noodles!? No, you're definitely doing a good job if you are able to feed everyone on $100 a week!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We used to have a similar argument!. But when my husband became disabled and stopped working and started doing most of the cooking, I asked him to come with me to do the shopping, so he could help select the meats and so forth he would be cooking!. He now knows what groceries cost and can tell me just by looking in the basket before we check out what the total will be!. I buy for me, my husband, my adult daughter and 7 year old grandson, and it runs us $140-150 per week!. Tell him it is what it is, and to cough up the $$, or do it himself!. Get indignant and ask him if he is questioning your spending habits, are you being extravagant!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

Don't know about a website like that but, why don't you plan a meal or two a week that are really inexpensive!? Maybe buy some ham hocks and a bag of beans!. You can make a big pot of beans for just a few dollars!. Add a box of cornbread and you've got a nutritious, filling meal!. Freeze the leftovers for lunch another day!. Make some soups, stews, chili etc!. and do the leftover thing with them!. This way you'll get two meals for the price of one cheap one!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

All you have to do is stop shopping!. Tell your husband if he thinks he can do better for HIM to go shopping! One trip and it will shut him up! Or you could start on him about the fact that he should make more money! Either way throw it right back in his lap! You do great as far as I'm concerned! You could feed him oatmeal for breakfast and lunch every single day and see how he likes that! Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would say they are eating a few meals out!.My husband will take a banana or some fresh green peppers for lunch he doesnt do breakfast!.So maybe thats the case there!.!.
at times i think its what you make also!.!.if a fresh well balanced meal or box meal like chicken and dumplins for 3!.00 bucks ya know!?My hubby wont eat that stuff!.
hamburger helper or tuna helper etc!.!.so maybe she is doing that also instea dof meals like lasgana /pork chops potatos and fresh green beans!.
I have 3 kids at home and spend way too much on groceries i feel !.!.i cant stay on that budget!.!.!.

I say give him the money and send him out i sent hubby and he almost died at prices!.He hadnt been in while and had no idea what things were costing!.good luck hon!
im right there with ya!
Www@FoodAQ@Com

Lol @ stopping eating meals!.!. No, I think you are right on track!. There are only 2 of us here, and we spend about $100/week, and that's not buying anything crazy, either!. Things aren't cheap, and prices keep going up!. Who cares what your husbands' friends' wife spends! Your husband knows what you guys eat, and he should know that you aren't "blowing" the money - unless you have some crazy stash of cookies somewhere that you aren't telling us about! ; )Www@FoodAQ@Com

you could buy a cookbook that focused on meals on a budget or look online for ideas!. you could also cook more food on sunday and use throughout week in other dishes!. you could also try to have a game!. you go the store for the week and see how much it cost you and then they following week have your husband go!. see who spends the most/least!. maybe make a bet!. or maybe just make a deal that you shop/cook for 2 weeks, then it is your husbands turn!. the prices of groceries has gone up!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well I think your budget is really good!. I have a husband and four kids and would love to be able to spend a hundred a week! I don't know about your home but at mine we go through two gallons a milk a day and that's just the milk!. Tell your husband to check the price of milk and fresh fruit and vegetables!. He will then see that what you are spending is nothing at all compared to what others are spending!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

100 a week!!! OMG! maybe I should take some pages from your book!! I spend waaaaaaaay more than that!.!.!. our gerocry limit is 600/month!.!.!. but what I found!.!.!.!.!. was the national average is $90/week!.!. so ur just about right on target!.!.!. (dont show him this!!)
GROCERIES
Save $840
Redeem weekly
The estimated average weekly grocery bill for an American household is $90, according to the Food Marketing Institute, a food retailer and wholesaler trade association in Washington, D!.C!. By using a store’s discount card, you can shave about 18 percent off that cost!. Another way to keep the register from ringing: Don’t bring the kids, who may ask for treats you weren’t planning on buying!. You can also save by stocking up on coupons!. www!.couponcart!.com or CoolSavings (www!.coolsavings!.com), and shop on double-coupon days if your grocer has them!. Avoid buying prepared and packaged goods!. For example, Consumer Reports found that two pounds of carrots cost $1!.29, compared with $7!.16 for the same amount of precut carrot sticks!. Finally, stock up on freezable foods after their peak times!. Gary Foreman, publisher of the Dollar Stretcher website (www!.thedollarstretcher!.com), notes that prices for turkeys are slashed after Thanksgiving and Christmas!.
