Question: Does anyone buy the unusual fruits at the market like star fruit, Asian pears, ugli fruit, and kumquats!?
If so, what do they taste like!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Asian pears are good and the kumquats and star fruit, while I find them bland tasting, make great garnish for fancy desserts or topping for fruited cheesecakes, along with other cool looking fruits like kiwi!. I did not care for the ugli fruit!. People in my neck of the woods buy these varieties all the time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have bought some, but I found the taste too be either so-so or bland with the exception of lichees!. Living in Toronto, the food has been shipped from hundreds or thousands of miles away and has had to be picked before it is ripe to survive the travel to the grocery store!. When it finally arrives at our house it is flavourless and starchy!. However, the same could also be said about buying peaches or plums out of season!. I would say, go for the unusual fruit if you're interested in trying something new!. It can be exciting, abeit a hit and miss experience!. I have also tried prickly pear, which was a miss because it is mostly seeds, even though the little bit of flesh between the seeds was quite good!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

i buy pears all the time for my family!. i dont like them but my husband and kids like them!. when i was littlle my mom would buy kumquats!. my husband gripes at me cause always buy the usual fruit!. but its better for me cause i know my kids will eat them!. also produce is getting rediculously expensive to be wasting money on something my kids probly wont eat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Asian Pears - when ripe, they are yummy! I always go to the farmers market and buy some!. I can't really describe the taste, but trust me, you need to try one!Www@FoodAQ@Com

You think Asian Pears are unusual!? They're delicious!. Not too sweet!. Nice and juicy!. You gotta try it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I used to work at a grocery store and if someone wanted to taste something!.!.!.they just asked the produce workers!! Ask sometime and maybe they will let you have a taste!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
