Yep!. You can defrost it but like it has been said, defrosting will cook slightly so you may want to check on it!. If you don't need it right away just take it out and let it thaw by room temp!. You can defrost anything in a microwave!. However, microwaving usually heats the food slightly!. Cheese begins to melt when you heat it which usually destroys the texture and flavor!.

As far as being safe: Yes it is!. The health department recommends three safe ways for thawing food:

1) Under cold running water (don't defrost cheese this way!. This method is better for frozen meats)!.

2) In the fridge!. (food will thaw in the fridge in about 2-3 days)!.

3) In the microwave (Food that is to be heated or cooked right away are OK with being thawed in the microwave)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I can't understand why anyone would want to freeze cheese in any case!. It usually has a long sell by date so freezing would be unneccessary!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
