Question: If I thaw out chicken will it still be good if I refreeze it and eat it later!?
I thawed out some chicken breasts but we had to go somewhere unexpectedly and I put them back in the freezer, I would like to thaw them out again tomorrow and cook them, is that okay to do!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Like Sew What!? said, it depends on how you defrosted it!.


If it was in the fridge, there is nothing wrong with it, provided your fridge maintains it at the proper temperature (41F or lower)!. If you decided to defrost it on your counter, that was a mistake!. The only ways to defrost anything and not worry about any food-borne illness is in the fridge or under RUNNING water!. Never do it in standing water!.

If you decided to do it at room temp, you have a total of 4 hours before that thing has more things crawling on it than Pam Anderson!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Once the raw chicken defrosts, it can be kept in the refrigerator an additional day or two before cooking!. During this time, if chicken defrosted in the refrigerator is not used, it can safely be refrozen without cooking first!.

Chicken defrosted in the microwave should be cooked immediately after thawing because some areas of the food may become warm and begin to cook during microwaving!. Holding partially cooked food is not recommended because any bacteria present wouldn't have been destroyed!. Well, you didn't say how you thawed them!. I wouldn't use it if you thawed it on the counter!. If you thawed it overnight in the fridge, then it's probably okay!.

If I'd been in your situation, I'd have probably cooked the thawed chicken in a skillet and then refrigerated it!. I'd have worried about how to use it later!.

If I thaw out chicken and won't eat it that same day, I season it then put it in the refrigerator for the next day!. That way the salt of the seasoning you use will preserve the chicken!. With chicken, you have to be careful not to get salmonella!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You should never thaw chicken out and them re freeze it as the bacteria multiplies rapidly!. If the breasts were still partly frozen or ice cold,then they should be okey but not if you thawed them out completely!.
