Question: How do you keep cut apples from turning brown WITHOUT using vinegar!?
My 2yo son has many allergies with vinegar being one of them!. I always used a little vinegar when I slice apples or other fruit for my kids for a snack when we go out!. Any suggestions on what else I can use!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
To keep apples from browning, you need an acidic solution!. It doesn't have to be citric acid!. The simplest is to crush up and dissolve a vitamin C tablet (ascorbic acid) in some cool water!. You can also dissolve about 1 tsp of cream of tartar (potassium acid salt of tartaric) in some cool water!.

Hope this helps!
