Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich? What's the deal?!

Question: Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich!? What's the deal!?
Is there some secret deal going on between Campbell's and Kraft Singles!? Every time I see a tomato soup ad, it's paired with a grilled cheese sandwich!. Why not tuna!? Why not bologna!? Is there some connection between these food items that I'm missing!?

Best detailed answer gets the points!. Please don't just say "well, they just go together" - I need to know if real people eat this combo, and why, or if it's just people in commercials!. Thx!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Yes - real people do it this combo!. It's actual one of my husband's favorite meals (besides steak of course)!.

The reason beyond this pairing is that they are both comfort foods!. In addition to their warm creamy mouth-feel, they have a high fat and carb content which is supposed to improve mood!. So, by pairing these two together, Campbell's is trying to imply that eating their soup will make you feel good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Maybe because the flavors of tomato and cheese compliment each other so well!. I put a slice of tomato on my grilled cheese sandwiches!. I love it that way!.

Pizza has tomato sauce and cheese, we put cheese on spaghetti!. etc!. They just taste great together!.

I bet Kraft and Campbells did strike up some kind of advertising deal at some point, but they probably did it because they knew it was a combo that would sell!.

P!.S!. I don't really care for tomato soup!. But, like I said, tomato ON grilled cheese I love!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Some things are just meant for each other!. Yes these two things go together!. It's my favorite soup and sandwich meal and it's also the favorite of my family!. It's like comfort food!. I don't know if Campbell's and Kraft are owned by the same company!. But it wouldn't matter to me!. I like Trader Joe's Roasted Pepper and Tomato soup, served with a grilled cheese sandwich made with sharp cheddar or provolone! No Kraft slices here!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i really don't know!. personally, i like chicken noodle soup with mine!. if i had to guess, i'd say it's b/c it's a well-rounded meal: carbs=bread, cheese=dairy, tomato soup=veggie!. whereas chicken noodle would be too much carb b/c of the noodles!. however, it would be lacking protein!. i think i'm thinking too much into this!. lol!. i think the real answer is that it's a tradition; kinda like celery & peanut butter!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, real people do eat the combo!.

Tomato soup goes really well with breaded greasy foods!. Grilled cheese sandwiches are nice and greasy and the bread has been toasted with butter!.!.

Its also an easy combo to make and doesn't seem so common yet smell kind of fishy!.

I like tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich, apple fritter, and breaded sea food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

are you saying you never had grilled cheese and tomato soup!?
well they do just go together, and as for me, i won't eat tomato soup unless i eat some grilled cheese with it and i won't eat a grilled cheese unless i eat some tomato soup with it!. and it's not from the commercials!. i can't think of another sandwich that would pair with the soup!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

This goes back many years!. All part of a marketing campaign that was drummed up when I was a kid!. !. !. we are talking the 70's!. The commercials started during the winter months, warm soup, warm sandwich and they stuck with it!. Probably works!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

1 of my partners cravings is grilled cheese and marmite with a bowl of tomato soup and i have to admit it does at least smell good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Soup is HOT so why would you eat a cold tuna or bologna sandwich with it!. Grilled cheese sandwiches are hot!. Most commercials for HOT soups and sandwiches are in the "COLD" winter months!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
