Jeez, give it a rest folks!
Hamburger was around !.69 cents a pound, steak just under $2!.00!.
Ham and chicken were cheap and nobody really ate turkey except at the holidays!. No such thing as tofuburgers or ground turkey!. Everybody I knew then would be mortified to eat raw fish-sushi-except oysters!. Some health food was available but it was considered exotic or weird!.
There was a awful gasoline shortage around that time and the price of gas and food/meat went sky high!.
In the future, I would check out your local library archives!. Then you you can direct quote from some of your local stores!. You'll be shocked but impress your teacher for sure!Www@FoodAQ@Com

About 1/4 of what it is now!. There's a magazine called "Reminisce" that has a section called "Prices From The Past", and in this months issue they show old grocery store ads!. You might be able to find the magazine on a newstand, or even on their web site!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

meow, wow now you are testing my dead brain cells 40 years ago we were paying 2 shillings and sixpence for a pound of lamb grilling chops!. Mince we were paying one and six, pork we were paying between 2 and 6 and three shillings a pound!. A pound of chuck was I think around 3 shillings!.

Hope I was of help!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
