What are the bumps in the soda cup lids for?!

Question: What are the bumps in the soda cup lids for!?
The ones that say "Coke" "Water" "Other!." Usually, none are pushed down when I get my soda cup!. I like to push them down, but I have no idea if they serve any purpose besides idle fun :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Some servers use them to keep track of multiple drink orders!. Other times they will use them if you order multiple types of to-go drinks so you can keep track of which is which!. And some places don't bother with them at all!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They are supposed to be pushed down to identify what is in the cup for the customer!. If you get four cups that all look the same you want to know which is root beer and which is Doctor Pepper!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They were designed so staff can identify different drinks when filled!.
They need to tell Diet from Regular, or Coke from Root Beer, &
Water from Sprite!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

sum places use them to not get mixed up on all the drinks they are producing for the other consumers!. *they r really fun to push down!*Www@FoodAQ@Com
