Is it possible to make clam chowder without potatoes?!
I know, it's a strange question, but my mother is allergic to potatoes, and I want to bring some clam chowder for Thanksgiving!. I know that the starch in potatoes helps thicken the soup, so is there something else I could use instead!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sure you can, no problem!. You can thicken your soup with some Roux (equal parts butter and flour, slowly sauteed until creamy with a smooth paste like consistency) or Slurry (cornstarch and cold water, whisked together then slowly drizzled into your soup while it's on a slow boil)!. I know your Mother will appreciate the fact that you thought about her in your preparations on Thanksgiving and your Chowder will still be fantastic!. Have a GREAT Sunday!Www@FoodAQ@Com
You can omit the potatoes - I don't see why not!. The potatoes aren't the only thickening agent; you can add some water and cornstarch!.
I use this basic recipe when I do chowder: http://allrecipes!.com/Recipe/Fish-Chowde!.!.!.
The flour with the liquid is what "thickens" it up so I think if you were to omit the potatoes, I really think it'd be fine!.
You can just play around with the recipes and see!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
