Looking for the truth about red food colouring and beetles?!

Question: Looking for the truth about red food colouring and beetles!?
Is there really crushed beetles in one type of red food coloring!. I usually don't even think about silly rumors, but I've heard this one a lot and I have to say I'm a little paranoid!. I feel really silly for asking and I guess it shouldn't bother me even if it is true because I guess I've been eating up till now and it hasn't killed me!. If it is true though can anyone say what the dye is used for!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I am a former chef and years ago they used the South American Cochineal beetle for that, lipstick, nail polish and others product for a red colour, now it is all chemically made, they still do make it in Central and South America, but in North America and Europe it is a chemical based food or product colour, just like shark oil it is now a thing of the past, they once used ambergris from whales to make perfume!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
