Question: Under what circumstances is it best to use olive oil in cooking as opposed to vegetable, or cooking oil!.!?
I am marinating a vegetable dish that calls for vegetable oil!. That of course would include the vegetable olive!. I am bringing the marination to a boil prior to adding to the vegetables!. That means the oil gets cooked first!. Is olive oil a cooking oil!? Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Yes, olive oil is a cooking oil and it has a distinct flavor!. It could be the reason you are to use vegetable oil instead of olive oil is that it won't go well with the other seasonings used in the recipe!.

Olive oil comes in several grades -- some for sauces, some for sauteeing, some for salad dressings!. The salad dressing oil has a more robust flavor!. Although you can use it for cooking, it may add too rich an olive flavor to your finished product!.

Experiment!. Some of my happiest accidents were delicious!.

All oils are different!. The most important thing to remember is to get an oil with a high smoke point!. Oils such as sunflower oils will have a much higher smoke point to something like olive oil!. Olive oil is a refined oil whereas sunflower is an unrefined oil!.
You can cook with all oils!. We mainly cook with olive oil as we live in an olive growing community, but if we are deep fat frying we always use sunflower oil!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes olive oil is a cooking oil and it's best to use in any dishes you want to have that flavor in, any savory dishes are good unless it's a strong flavored dish like asian style dishes, indian dishes etc!.!. Baking is also not right for olive oil because the olive oil is too strong and it will over power the baked items!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You don't want to use olive oil for deep frying or baking as it has a flavor all it's own as opposed to vegetable oil!. Use it for pan frying (combined with it butter it raises the smoke point meaning butter burns faster than olive oil), dressings and marinades!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
