What are those orange patches on crumpets?!

Question: What are those orange patches on crumpets!?
i bought 'Golden' toastable crumpets 2-3days ago and i put them straight in the freezer in a new snaplock plastic bag!. they have been frozen for about 1 day plus overnight and the use-by date is today!. when i took one out of the freezer for toasting this morning, it had a couple small faded orange patches on them!. i thought this was mould but then i thought that was impossible since i froze them!?!!?! i ate it anyway and im fine, but i usually see the orange patches on about 1day old crumpets and they usually appear on the crumpets on the end of the packet!. what is it!?
