Packets of meat.................?!

Question: Packets of meat!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!?
Packets of meat say 'once opened consume within 2 days', however I find that I usually do not eat the whole packet within the 2 days and feel it's a waste to throw it out then!. How long can I safely keep and eat it for once opened!? Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Long before "sell by" or "use by" dates were stuck on everything, we used to use our noses, eyes and common sense to check whether food was good or not!. If it smells fresh and looks fresh and has been refrigerated, meat should last a good few days!. Alternatively you could freeze the meat you have not used and have it later!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You don't say, but I guess you're talking about cooked meat!.

Check on the package if you can freeze it ~ then you can take out what you need, and freeze the rest!.

If not most supermarkets have a cold counter where they serve you, and they also have prepacked slices of meat, in various quantities, like four, six or more slices, so buy the smaller amounts!. Or get them to just slice a couple of pieces off which ever lump of meat you see at the counter and fancy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i agree - go with judgement and common sense!. if it looks or smells wrong, don't eat it; if it looks and smells normal, odds are it's ok!. also, you're cooking it, which should kill bacteria anyway

if you find you've got too much, you could always freeze half and use later, thus sparing yourself the worry!Www@FoodAQ@Com

they have to leave a safty margin therefore if it says 2 days you should be ok for at least 4 poss even 6 but as others have said your nose will tell you when to stopWww@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with the first answer!. She's right!. It's all gone a bit nuts with all these EU directives and blah blah blah!. As she said, basic cop on!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I wouldn't take a chance!. If you can't eat it in 2 days don't buy it any more!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
