Why do our food preferences sometimes shift with age?!

Question: Why do our food preferences sometimes shift with age!?
I really wonder about this, and I wonder if there is a biological/scientific reason!? I mean, as recently as high school (4 years ago for me) I could not STAND jalapeno peppers!. Now, I love them and eat them very often!. When I was a little kid I adored vienna sausage, and yet those things taste so horrible to me now!. What gives!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's physical and psychological!. Our taste buds literally change with age, therefore somethings become different in the degree of tastiness!. Which is in part why, when I was seven and at IHOP, I would order the chocolate chip pancakes with extra chocolate and now a Denver omelet honestly sounds better!. It's also psychological, as our ideas of what constitutes good cooking change as a result of health education and exposure to different cultures!.

also, it may just be that the sausages you had before were actually better!. This Vietnamese place I used to eat at served outstanding spring rolls, then went out of business!. No one else makes spring rolls I like, so I learned how to make them myself and adjusted the recipe accordingly!. As a cook, I can say that not all recipes are equal!. There are good eggs and bad eggs!.

And it's true - your resilience to spice does increase with age!. You have to get used to it!. When I was a teenager, I disdained spicy food; now virtually everything I make is spicy to some degree!. Sometimes it's simply a matter of developing and toughening up your taste buds!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I remember reading somewhere that our tastebuds get more dull as we age (similar to our eyesight and hearing)!. If that's true, it would make sense that children would prefer blander food because strong or spicy flavors would be too much for them!. As you get older & your tastebuds dull a bit, spicier foods are more palatable!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Taste buds change every 7 years, or approximately!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
