Is it safe to eat raw corn on the cob?!

Question: Is it safe to eat raw corn on the cob!?
I've always liked it raw and my daughter does too!. Its quick, easy, and healthy!.

I get the kind that's still in the husk and peel it myself and wash it really well!.

But my mother saw my daughter and I eating them the other day and started fussing about e coli or salmonella and said I HAVE to cook it!. Now I'm all paranoid!.!.!. but people eat other fruits and veggies raw!.

Is there any merit to her arguement!? I've been cooking them since then, but I really prefer them raw!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Super safe!.!.!.!.if you grow up in the sticks, you walk by peoples farm and grab a piece and start eating right there!.!.!.!.

Looks like your daughter loves eating corn on the cob as much as my boys!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i eat it raw sometimes only alittle bit at a time though and cook the rest, i don't think it would do much harm as long as you wash it properly and don't have it like that everyday!. coz sweetcorn is quite hard for your body to digest properly but im no food expert, thats only what i think!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's actually BETTER that way! Corn on the cob starts to lose it's sweetness as soon as it's picked, and within 24 hours 75% of the sugar has turned to starch! Most roadside stands (or farmers' markets) who sell fresh corn will have some cut off the cob, for you to try- raw!. When it's fresh, it's as sweet as candy!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your mum is being paranoid! If it looks healthy, not mouldy, give it a wash and it'll be fine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Raw corn is safe to eat!.!.!.

However, let me temper the statement!.!.!.
Do you know the source of the corn!? Home grown, local or from another country!?

I've never really given it deep thought, but if I think about it too much!.!.!. I would probably cook the corn (5 minutes boiling water) if it came from another country!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes just ensure washedWww@FoodAQ@Com
