a simple sugar is a six carbon ring, sometimes with keytones or aldehydes attached!. More or less a "saccharide" is another term for a type of carbohydrate or sugar!. Monosaccharides are simple sugars, meaning they only have one six-carbon ring, or cylcohexane, that makes up the molecule!. These cyclohexanes can be attached, much like Legos, rather easily and thus you get disaccharides, trisaccharides, etc!. etc!.
