actually no they came from the potatoes came from peru and the Spanish liked the potatoes and took them back with them and during world war 2 the belgians created the french fries, but when thomas jefferson went to france he bought the recipe and brought it back to america with him and had it served in "French" manner at the white houseWww@FoodAQ@Com

No they are Belgian only in North America they are called French fries,
if you go to France they are called Pommes Frites and Frites
and the same in Belgium!.
