Is it safe to thaw frozen food in the fridge, then re-freeze it?!

Question: Is it safe to thaw frozen food in the fridge, then re-freeze it!?
I had some sausages frozen for a couple of months and thawed them out in the fridge for about 3 days, but never cooked them so I refroze them!. Is this safe!? They expired on 3/27 and i know expiration dates aren't the same when food is frozen, but should i throw them out since they thawed out!? What are some rules on freezing and thawing foods!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
personally i would throw them out!. That is kind of gross when you think about that and if you feel weird about it like you do right now, just throw them out and buy more!. They have already thawed and after that they aren't very good anymore!. You should buy some more, and individually wrap them in foil and put them in the freezer and when you want to cook one just take one of them that is individually wrapped and the rest will still be able to stay frozen because they are all in their own foil!. Thats what i do with all my meat :) its safer, more sanitary, and it keeps everything fresh!. I just don't think your food is fresh anymore if you unfreeze than refreeze!. So I would throw it out!. :) just to be safe and to ensure the best taste and quality as well!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They are perfectly safe!. The quality will be a bit less with the refreezing, but they are safe!.

The quality only changes because the formation of ice crystals will cause some structural damage to the food, but safety is not compromised!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

if you had cooked them and then refroze, then yes, but not if they are still uncooked!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, never refreeze thawed out food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
