Do bananas last longer in the refrigerator?!
Do bananas last longer in the refrigerator than on the counter!? Is there another way to keep bananas freshest longest!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
Here are a few tips I found on eHow!.
Break up the bunch!. Bananas will stay fresh longer if separated, as this will slow down the amount of ethylene gas produced during the natural ripening process!. If you store bananas in the vegetable drawer of your refrigerator, make sure the vents are open so there’s a chance for the gas to escape!.
Keep bananas in the original plastic bag you bought them in, especially if you plan on storing them in the fridge!. This will protect them for air exposure, which can cause them to ripen too fast!.
Buy unripe bananas if you don’t plan on consuming them within a couple of days!. Always store unripe bananas at room temperature, as the fridge will stop the ripening process and can cause the fruit to taste green, even if the skin is browning!.
Avoid bananas with brown skin!. This indicates bananas that are either too ripe or that have been stored in a fridge for a long time before shipping!.
Separate fruits and vegetables when storing them!. The gases emitted during ripening are quite different and will either spoil the fruit or accelerate the ripening process too much!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

don't do that!. just a week ago, i had purchased a bunch of bananas!. they were really nice too!. i had to keep my windows open to air out my room though, so i had been doing so for hours at a time!. around 3 days after i had purchased them, i reached for the bunch, and some of them looked bruised up for no reason!. when i peeled one of them, the top piece was all black and creepy looking!. i looked it up on google and learned that cold temperatures do not go well with bananas!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I don't think so!. You might try those "green bags"!. I've been wanting to myself!. They can also be frozen to use in smoothies!. Just for eating plain I leave them at room temperature but I don't like cold bananas!. I just buy as many as I know I can eat!. You can hang them to help minimize bruising!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes the refridgerator will keep them longer however the skins will turn an unappealing brown color!.
Once they have been chilled though, they will not last very long at room temperature so if you are taking it out to eat it, eat it right away!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
