Answers:
A botanist will say it is a fruit (according to their definition)!. However, A botanist will not classify anything as a vegetable because that term is not used!. They couldn't classify a tomato as a vegetable even if they wanted to!. Carrots, potatoes and celery are classified under a term called "herbaceous plants"!.

And, a lot of botanical "fruits" are not even edible!. The word "fruit" is not used by a botanist the same way that you or I would use it!. For them, it has nothing to do with taste or whether or not it was edible!.

Chefs, on the other hand, do classify certain foods as vegetables!. And, the definition that a chef uses for fruit is different then the definition a botanist uses!. A fruit is sweet and vegetables are savory!. Since tomatoes are savory, they are classified as vegetables!. Some plants, like rhubarb and pumpkin, are classified as both fruits and vegetables because they are used in sweet dishes!. Mushrooms are a type of fungus, but they are classified as a vegetable in the culinary world!.

When you make this comparison based on a scientific definition, it makes no sense!. You are using two different sets of criteria that do not follow any logical pattern!. It would be the same thing as trying to compare the table of contents in a book with a table that you sit at to eat!. They are not the same!.

So, a tomato is classified as a fruit (scientifically), but is eaten as a vegetable!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

oooh, haven't you heard!?

tomato is a "VEGGIEFRUIT!"

it's mother was a "fruit," it's dad was vegetable, and together they made a tomato!.

As you can see the tomato still has some classification problems, as the tomato is mixed, and really just want to be accepted as a mixed class of goods!.

Tomato got his looks, color, and shape from his mom, but he got his inner qualities from his dad, making him a wonderful addition to anyone’s family mealtime table!.

Let us all be sensitive here at this site when talking about tomato, and let’s show him some love by respecting and observing the deep, and complex psychological effects of racially mixed eatables!.

This is a growing trend among our groceries, and we need to be as educated about our community of fast growing nourishments as possible!.

Thanks for hearing me out people, and TOMATO we love you here!

A tomato is a fruit!

Anything that bears seeds is a fruit!.

The part of the plant that is not part of the flowering (seed) process is vegetation - such as the leaves and stems etc; and these are botanically vegetables but the actual tomato comes from the seed bearing part of the plant (the flower) and that makes it a fruit!Www@FoodAQ@Com

A tomato is a fruit because it has seeds!. But it's often mistaken as a vegetable because fruits tend to taste sweet, which a tomato does not!.

Generally, fruits are developed from the ovary of a plant, and vegetables are just the leaves/stalks that grow from the plant!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It can be either!. If you eat it as a vegetable then its a vegetable!. If you eat it as a fruit then its a fruit!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
