because vanilla only grows in certain places. It originally came from Mexico (or that area of the continent) but now is mainly produced on the island of Madagascar.


And since it only grows in certain places, and demand is high, supply is dwindling. less supply + high demand = higher cost.

Botany class

It's the tiny black seeds from the middle of the orchid flower and it's VERY time consuming to grow this stuff properly, so go figure.
