Question: How good is ham lunch meat good for after the sell by date?
I just bought Sara lee ham and it has a sell by date of 4 days ago already!

sell by date and expiration date is 2 different things.
Most meats and milk products are good for at least a week after the sell by date.
In fact it often says just that on the package.
Look closely.
I would give it about a week.
You can freeze it too which negates the date on it.
In fact many meats will say use or freeze by this date.
It is assumed that when you thaw it you intend to use it immediately.



well if you bought it after the sell by date, the store will just switch it out. It's illegal to sell out of date product, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are bad, it's just a guideline. If the ham is discolored, slimy or smells funny, don't eat it.
