My dad grows vegetables because that's one of his hobby and we love using them for really fresh salads and pickled vegetables for the winter.

Not as much as I used to but my 5 year old grand daughter and I do grow a couple of tomato plants each year and this spring she wants to plant 'salad' too. LOL
Why?
Back in the day, I planted a garden because it was cheap food. A couple of bucks worth of seed yielded an entire summer of good eating and if it was something I could freeze, can or dry for future use, it saved me even more.
We grew beans, peas, carrots, beets, lettuce, radishes, flowers, pumpkins, cucumbers, squash, corn, potatoes, onions, garlic, parsley, parsnips, sweet potatoes, cabbage, tomatoes and zucchini.
I spent my summer upside down weeding and my fall hovered over the sink and stove canning, pickling and freezing food for the winter.

Yes I do , because I know there has been no poisons used on them. They are matured and not picked green, there fore taste much better than store bough. Not to mention the cost is much less.

yes, I do.
I love it because its biological, I know what i′m eating and how long its been there for.
:)
