If its just for spreading on bread or crackers etc then putting it in the microwave for 20 seconds isn't a bad idea. If its for baking then I would advise against it. It changes the butter which can change the outcome when you're baking. My house is cold too and if I am cooking dinner and I am going to be serving bread with it I will set my butter near the stove or on it if I am baking.
My favorite way to soften butter? I throw a pound of it into my stand mixer and beat the crap out of it.
Housewife.
You don't want it to go rancid in the heat but your house is too cool for the butter. Is the cupboard that it is in on the outside wall?
My butter stays soft when the under cupboard lights are on.
Microwave the butter for only 20-30 seconds to soften it for bread.
Get yourself a proper butter dish with a lid, that will keep it safe and cleaner than in a plastic bag.
OR if you don't have a microwave, leave the butter in the plastic bag, close it tightly, pressing most of the air out, and knead it a bit with your warm hands and that will soften it.
Chef
I always cut a piece off a block and keep covered in the fridge, and brimg out before I need.to use it Ours look more like a block of cheese.
The only thing I can suggest to you is th cut your stick into smaller slices eg in half or thirds.
Find a warmer place to keep it.
Ask your mother for a loan f hers and if that works get one yourself.
Place the butter on the plate and, put it in the microwave for a few min if you want to use the butter right away. For later use after purchase, have a butter tray with cover and, keep it on your kitchen table in a good room temperature.:)
You live in the arctic?
It should be soft. I'd keep it near the top of the oven so the pilot light keeps it soft, OR put it in an airing cupboard where there's a water boiler.
Microwave it for just a few seconds at a time - that'll do it!
take it out earlier. you have to wait for it to soften more lol
