I'm not cheap but for some reason I don't really like tipping.. What do you guys think about this?!

Question: I'm not cheap but for some reason I don't really like tipping.. What do you guys think about this?
Haha, like if a Pizza guy comes or we're at a restaurant I tip but meh, I don't really like it.
It's not like I'll go broke for giving a small tip or anything but it seems a bit dumb to pay someone for
doing something they're already getting paid for... Something they're supposed to do.

Haha, but I think like that with everything! I guess I'm just a horrible person, lol :p.
Like at my school we usually get free Starbucks cards if we get good grades... I get them, but in my mind I'm always like " Why are we getting free stuff... We're supposed to get good grades."

But yeah, what do you guys think about giving tips? :p

Answers:

Yeah I don't like tipping either. I have the same point of view as you. I'll tip sometimes if I feel like I've received really good service or they're expecting me to. My parents are terrible for it! They tip everyone! But yeah I've been a waiter before and when they've offered me a tip I usually just tell them to keep it. But I normally get it any way. I once made £112 off tips on a 10 hour shift once. I wasn't complaining though. Did feel a bit guilty, but oh well.

EDIT: Waiting is usually minimum wage, what about the rest of minimum wage jobs? No one gets a tip there. But yeah if you want to tip then tip, I don't think people should expect to get tipped though.

Servers do not get paid minimum wage, they get paid $2.35/hour. Income taxes are figured on their total sales and comes out of that $2.35/hr. Why would you not tip someone that takes your order, delivers the food to you, keeps your drinks filled, smiles (even if they don't feel good), pampers you, makes you feel special, and removes the dirty dishes from your table.

The free Starbucks cards are a reward. Why be so negative?

They get paid so little to start with and giving the guy a couple of bucks isn't going to break me. Besides, I won't go out to eat or get food delivered if I can't afford to tip.

I tip extra for outstanding service or if I get my pizza delivered in extreme weather like rainstorms, extreme heat, etc.

No one likes it its just polite i dont think the pizza guy likes working there so its polite to give a tip =)

Its someones income - I would tip just so I know they can make it from week to week I guess.

am with you

Its your choice buddy.. if person who enjoys your tip is a school going kid or someone with real need, then it really helps. so basically u do not have tip thiking the person is already getting paid. its just an extra hand you give to help himself.
Thinking of your school giving starbucks cards to have free starbucks, then its like giving a small treat to a dog after its usual performance. Its not a good idea.. so tell your school to treat you as humans and not animals. If you are smart and intelligent u get grades any way. should not be for a free starbuks card.

Tipping is cultural. In the US, wait staff makes significantly less than minimum wage because tipping is expected here. In other cultures, tipping can be insulting. Living in NY, I always tip wait staff at least 20% unless the service was bad. There is etiquette around tipping that should be followed. Personally, if I date a guy who is cheap with a tip, it's a strike against him if he can afford it.

As for the Starbucks for getting good grades, some schools/parents try to encourage good behavior by giving rewards. It works for some people. I wouldn't turn down free coffee!!

Waiters and Waitresses make a significantly lower hourly wage than the standard minimum wage. They only make about a dollar or two an hour for their time. This legal and lower wage is set because the position is considered a sales job with commission, i.e. their TIPS. Usually, if a server makes an average amount in tips, the money they make per hour does not cover the cost of the taxes that need to be paid to cover their hours worked resulting in many a $0.00 weekly paycheck. If a server is making a living wage, and most do not, then they will owe their entire paycheck plus several hundred dollars in taxes at the end of the year.

Needless to say, not tipping your server is extremely costly to the person serving you.

My suggestion is DO NOT BUY THING AT PLACES YOU NEED TO TIP. If you do go to places that has service, tip appropriately. 15% is standard for good service. 10% for fair or poor service. Personally, I tip only as high as 20% for exceptional service.

You may not like to tip. Coffee shops that pay at least full minimum wage never get a tip from me because that is their job. They are not servers and are not in sales. They perform a task and fill orders. Marketing does the sales for them.

The pizza guy that comes to your house is depending on your tip to atleast cover his gas. Home delivery is a luxury service and the pizza place that employs him isn't really covering for his time, expenses or fuel. Many give these drivers 20 or so dollars and make them figure everything out for themselves. They get the "privlage" delivering their food to people's homes from their restaurants. Sounds shitty because it is. Tipping them for 15-20% for hot food delivered in a timely fashion is simply fair and a luxury you pay that person for when you have you diner brought to you. Be kind and generous to these people, it's a rough, sometimes dangerous job. This goes for taxi drivers and hotel/motel cleaning services as well.

again, if you don't like tipping, avoid businesses that give you service. The service staff that takes care of your needs is working that job for your tips. If you don't want to tip, don't use their services.

many years of being a restaurant manager.

I tip for the service. If the meal in a restaurant is great and the service is shitty I tip less than 5%. If the service is good I tip 15%. If it is outstanding I tip a $20 bill. If the meal is not good but the service is good I will tip 10%. If I have my grandkids with me and they make a mess I leave a $20 bill cause it is gonna take 2 people to clean it up.

I tip hotel maids if the room is kept really nice and clean and you can tell that they have been there.

I tip cab drivers if they open the door for me and assist me with my luggage. If they don't bother, I won't tip them.

I tip my hairdresser at least $5 and sometimes $10 depending on how long I have been in the chair.

A lot of wait staff and maids, drivers, servers, etc get paid minimum wage and the tips are part of their remuneration.
