Cooked vegetables are generally lower in vitamin c, despite being higher in other availible nutrients. Try peppers, both chiles and bells, they have well over a days worth in an average serving.
Primate researchers discovered recently that our most closely related ape cousins have diets that contain 15-20 the amount of the RDA set by the USDA, which is theorized to be the reason why humans cannot synthesize our own vitamin C. This should give an indication of the importance of Vitamin c in our diet and how the RDA is most likely not sufficient for optimum health.
