You shouldn't feel embarrassed if you have to use a restroom a few times within a 9 hour period. That's a long time!

Having said that, avoid drinking water and any beverages that contain caffeine. Water and caffeine are diuretics which means they flush you out and make you go more frequently

In the end though, it's better to go when you have to. Holding it, over time, can cause health problems

For the drivers health that car should stop every 2 hours anyway. Makes sense to use the facilities at every opportunity. When he stops for gas/food you pee(everyone pees). Reality is if you gotta go someone else just has not spoken yet.
