Honeycomb gone wrong !?!

Question: Honeycomb gone wrong !?
My honeycomb went brittle but tasted salty and burnt. Should you throw the bicarb in when the sugar is a light or dark colour. Here is the recipe - 3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp golden syrup
1 1/2 tsp water
1 teaspoon bicarb

Did I use too much bicarbonate of soda or was it because It was burn that it tasted horrible ?

Peronsonally, I would just add some honey or syrup to dilute the taste. Other than that, maybe if it's too burnt, you should make another batch?

You add the soda when it has reched the temp you are looking for. After turning off the heat. The pour out and spread.
